Technology with Heart
Technology Tailored for Every Ability
“For most of us, technology makes things easier. For a person with a disability, it makes things possible.”
At Threshold, we believe technology should feel as human as the people it serves. We’re a disability-services organization first and foremost and have been for over 50 years.
Through our Technology with Heart program, we use assistive technology and remote support as additional tools to help individuals with developmental disabilities live with greater independence, confidence, privacy, and peace of mind. We bring technology and compassion together to create brighter futures.
People First. Technology When it Helps.
We don't start with technology.
We start with the person.
There is no one-size-fits-all solution. That’s why we work closely with each person, their guardian, and their support team to understand what they want to accomplish, where they need support, and where technology may help. From simple assistive devices to remote supports, we look for practical solutions that fit the person’s goals, abilities, home, and daily life. Threshold is determined to provide the right technology to each individual.
Our Philosophy
Technology With Heart
Technology with Heart means tech backed by human beings who care.
Independent, Not Alone
Independence doesn’t mean being alone. Support is available when needed.
Real People Behind the Technology
Trained support professionals are there 24/7 to help when needed.
Least Intrusive Support
The right support is the least intrusive support that safely meets a person’s needs.
Individualized Solutions
Every support plan is built around the person’s goals, preferences, and dignity.
Better Quality of Life
Technology is used only when it improves independence, privacy, safety, or daily living.
“Our team is dedicated to providing personalized care, fostering independence, and enhancing their daily lives. We believe everyone deserves support tailored to their unique needs. Working in remote support has taught me patience, compassion, and humility. I take pride in my work, because it’s a privilege to empower these individuals and grow along with them.”
– Ryan Elick, Threshold Remote Support Professional
Our team of remote support professionals is there to respond when needed and to provide a familiar, human connection on the other end of the line. They can provide assistance from a secure, off-site location staffed at our very own 24/7/365 Remote Support Center, all while an individual lives in their own home.
Depending on the individual’s needs, a home may incorporate tools such as motion or activity sensors, fall detection, stove monitoring, medication supports, communication devices, or other assistive technologies. For some individuals, that may mean greater privacy at home. For others, it may mean being able to develop new skills or reduce unnecessary dependence on physical staff presence. Either way, it’s incorporation is designed around the individual, not around the technology.
The technology is the tool. The person is the reason.
