Technology with Heart
Technology Tailored for Every Ability.
At Threshold, we believe technology should feel as human as the people it serves. Our Tech with Heart program delivers assistive technology and/or remote support services that empower individuals to live with greater independence, confidence, and peace of mind.
With solutions customized to each person’s unique needs—and a team that truly cares—Threshold brings technology and compassion together to create brighter futures. Threshold works with each individual to determine what pieces of technology are best for the individual so they can live their lives more independently. With a wide variety of options, Threshold is determined to provide the right technology to each individual.
“Threshold remote monitoring services deliver compassionate, high-quality remote support to individuals with developmental disabilities. Our team is dedicated to providing personalized care, fostering independence, and enhancing their daily lives. We believe everyone deserves support tailored to their unique needs, and through remote services, we’re able to do so with minimal invasion of client privacy. Working in remote support has taught me patience, compassion, and humility. I take pride in my work, because it’s a privilege to empower these individuals and grow along with them.”
– Ryan Elick, Threshold Remote Support staff
Remote Monitoring is an innovative way for Direct Support Professionals to provide care and monitoring from an off-site location. By installing a series of monitors, cameras, and communication devices, homes can be monitored in real-time to ensure an individual is safe while they live a more independent life. Remote Monitoring sites can be equipped with several types of sensors and devices, such as fall sensors, stove monitors, or automatic pill dispensers that all support the individual to live the life they envision.

In addition to its five remote-supported locations, Threshold has a Remote Monitoring Center where a team of Remote Support Professionals are staffed 24/7/365 to ensure that the individuals are not only safe in their homes but have a friendly face on the other end of the line.
Assistive technology isn’t one-size-fits-all. That’s why we work closely with individuals, guardians, and caseworkers to design solutions that are practical, supportive, and person-centered.

Examples of Assistive Technology

iPads with Augmentative/Alternative Communication (AAC) software for individuals with speech or hearing impairments.

“Smart” spoons with electric gyroscopes to enable individuals with tremors to be able to feed themselves with increased independence and dignity.

Linkable alarm/bed shakers that connect to a user’s continuous glucose monitoring system to notify them of drastic changes to their blood glucose levels overnight.
The Process
To discuss the usage of assistive technology and/or remote support with individuals, staff, and guardians, we begin by discussing the individuals’ needs and recommend technology that will offer the best possible support.
This allows the individual and their guardians to make informed decisions about their lives and the use of assistive technology.
Insurance
This service is covered under the individuals’ existing Medicaid Waiver through the DODD.
